Autumn 2009 Production Team Announced
Luton Light's 2009 production of Rent will be directed and choreographed by Mathew Orr. The Society welcomes Simon Tabert as musical director. Kate Redding will be assistant director.
The production is being staged at The Library Theatre, Luton from Wednesday 14th to Saturday 17th October 2009 at 7.45 pm each night. Tickets are available from the Box Office on 01582 582228.
Company Choreographer Scoops Luton News Award
Emma Orr was awarded the 2006 Luton News Award for Best Choreography for Luton Light's 2006 production of Company. Local theatre critic, Nova Horley, thought Emma's choreography for the showstopper, Side By Side, was the most outstanding number she had seen in the area in 2006.
Luton Light wins NODA Award Twice in a Row
Luton Light's 2005 production of Salad Days was awarded the NODA Region 3 Award for Best Production. The award was presented to the Society at the NODA Annual General Meeting in 2006.
Luton Light's production of Anything Goes was awarded the NODA Region 3 Award for Best Production in 2004. Anything Goes was also judged to have been one of the ten best productions in the NODA Eastern Region, earning Luton Light a nomination for the coveted Councillor's Cup.
In May 2006, NODA President, Mr E. Smart, attended Luton Light's production of Company - a first for the Society! In 2007, Luton Light's productions of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Into The Woods were attended by Mr Smart and John Warburton, our NODA Eastern Region Councillor.
Luton Light Actress Scoops Luton News Award
Sarah Albert, star of Luton Light's 2005 production of Guys & Dolls, was awarded The Luton News Award for Best Actress in the local newspaper's 2005 review of local theatre. Miss Albert receives her award for her portrayal of Miss Adelaide in the infamous musical fable of Broadway. Local theatre critic, Roy Hall, described Miss Albert's performance as "near perfect".
Lord McKenzie of Luton Becomes Luton Light's New Vice-President
Former Labour leader of Luton Borough Council, Bill McKenzie, has accepted Luton Light's invitation to become Vice-President of the Society. He joins existing Vice-Presidents, Mr and Mrs W. Copeland, Mr P. Davies and Mr D. Ludlow MBE. Lord McKenzie of Luton, who became a peer of the realm in June 2004, describes himself as a "working peer" and intends "to use the opportunity to help Luton in every way" he can.
